Suspended Fire
Suspended fires create one of the most distinctive fireplace looks available, turning the fire into an architectural feature that appears to float within the room.
Rather than being installed into a traditional fireplace opening, a suspended fire is typically supported from above, creating a dramatic contemporary appearance. This makes the style particularly suited to modern homes, large open-plan rooms and interiors where the fireplace is intended to become a major design statement.
Depending on the appliance, suspended fireplaces can offer impressive views of the flames from several directions, allowing the fire to be enjoyed from different areas of the room.
Their unusual installation style can also provide greater design freedom, particularly where a conventional chimney breast or wall-mounted fireplace would interrupt the layout of the space.
Suspended fires do, however, require careful planning. The supporting structure, flue arrangement, hearth requirements and distances from combustible materials must all be considered according to the specific appliance.
The fire and flue system should therefore be selected at an early stage of the project rather than after the room has been completed.
